A new name, a fresh start! The Communities First programme in Penrhiwceiber, Miskin and Perthcelyn has recently undergone major changes.
The Three individual partnerships of Miskin, Penrhiwceiber and Perthcelyn formally merged last year by the Welsh Assembly Government to form a single ward-wide Partnership. With this fresh start, we decided that the public should have a say in its name and helped us with a new logo.
We set a challenge to the children from Perthcelyn, Pengeulan, Our Ladies, Penrhiwceiber and Miskin primary schools to design us a new logo - we received over 130 entries - an incredible number, a HUGE well done to all of you that took part! Working with Creative Communities' Rhian Brewster, our local Arts Development Officer, ten entries were short-listed to work with a professional artist, refining their designs. Their entries then went on a public exhibition at the Penrhiwceiber Library, where the public were asked to state, which one they thought should be the winning logo and new name for our Partnership. The best logo design was by Jordan Taylor of Miskin Primary School - well done jordan! Communities First presented Jordan with a winners certificate and a special trip with his dad Gareth to the Arts Factory in Ferndale to work with a professional Graphics Designer to render his winning design into a professional computerised image. Our new name 'Tri yn Un' - which when translated means 'Three Become One' was adopted by the Partnership after it was the most popular choice of visitors to the exhibition. The name symbolises that the Partnership works for the good of all three of its communities equally and without favour.
